There were quite a few moments that made me emotional during recording, but the following excerpt took a few attempts to read without tears.

“After a moment, another car pulls up the long driveway. Self-driving, it turns off on its own.  A tall man steps out from the driver’s side. He is silhouetted against the summer sky. At nearly fifty, silver threads his once dark hair. In the curve of his face, I recognize every version he once was.

Mischievous toddler.

Restless teenager. 

Young man.

A shadow moves in the passenger seat. The door opens. Collectively, our gaze shifts. 

Mom. Dad. I’d like you to meet my friend.”
