💯 understand and feel the same. My son will be 16 in March and has Autism. I am so happy that Michael Charney made me aware of your posts so many years ago.

Behold. Indeed. The son. And the mother. Remarkable individuals, each.
As as single father these past 28 years (after her mother deserted us) to a darling daughter with multiple challenges, both mental and physical, I continue to marvel at your strength, Carrie, but I also know why you continue. I did keep my girl at home until my own physical limitations required placement in a group home two years ago that I felt met her needs, and as her co-conservator, we made the choice for this particular home, and I’m not unhappy with it as they have been very good with her. A disappointing thing did happen though that did cause me to be removed as co-conservator, because of her lack of communication ability(totally non-verbal).
Her only way to show thanks, love and friendship she learned from her grandmother—kissing on the mouth which was often messy because she was usually drooling most of the time anyway(often wears a bib. One of the house staff early on took this to be passionate, which of course it was not, and it was reported as inappropriate.
We went to court, I had witnesses, including several friends from church, even including a Reverend who had known both of us for ten years, and a letter from her Neurologist, but we couldn’t convince the judge that this was innocent behavior between a father and his child, who is mentally less than two years old. The judge didn’t care, and I was removed. It really didn’t matter as the co-conservator took over (my cousin) who wants me to make all the decisions anyway! The hardest part has been that we are in California: the home is considered a nursing home, and they have been under quarantine since early March so no one has been able to see her.
We are trying to re-call our Governor. Please pray for us!
