I hope he reads this and retracks the song and writes a better title and lyric. I would never buy nor listen to this song.

Another marvelous, thought-provoking post. I REALLY hope Adam (as well as other vocal artists) reads your post. and thoughtfully considers its message. All who have a “Jack” in their lives look to you as their spokesperson. Thank you for carrying the ball – and for throwing it when necessary.

Thanks as always for sharing your journey.

My son, “Jack”, has always been equally fascinated with music, or more particularly, sounds. For a while my son became fascinated by a particular music artist. He would try to dress like him with a fedora hat, or sunglasses, black shoes with bright socks, or even a glove (can you guess who now?). He would put on his headphones and listen to ‘MJ’s’ songs for hours. He would practice his moves and even got pretty good at ‘moonwalking’. When he looked to me for reinforcement and approval it was kind of hard for me to tell him all my thoughts. I told him that Michael Jackson was a fantastic singer, songwriter and performer. But, I also told him that I thought there was a dark side to him — and this led to some ‘teachable moments’. I guess in the long run it turned out pretty well. He no longer plays his music, he learned some cool moves and it gave us a chance to reinforce the ‘stranger danger’ rules.

I have loved Maroon 5 since I first him them. I love them. And since I love them…so do my kids. With Nash, he knows the bad words, even when they are bleeped. But really…I have a HUGE potty mouth so he hears worse in our home. But, I have had to have talks about why most of the singers and songwriters are now compelled to use as many bad words as they can. I wish I didn’t have to dance around the radio & satellite to find songs that I deem fit. I hope he reads your article and gets it.

There are dozen of artists who use swear words in their music. Some of them would not be expected to do so but the thing is that is a part of their career. Adam has such a wide variety of fans that it’d us just impossible to please everyone. People are really one sides when it comes to music. It’s okay to listen to a song that contains a sexual , drug , or alcohol reference. Alot of music these days talk about far worse things than simply saying “mother ——” It seems silly to target one artist for something that so many others do. Don’t expose your child to music that may contain lyrics that you don’t a prove of. Simple as that.

Kay, you are missing the point entirely. Carrie is no more ‘exposing’ Jack to this music than she is ‘exposing’ him to the air he breathes. She is 100% correct in appealing to Levine and other artists who chose to use such language gratuitously (does the word actually help him sell more songs?), to make more responsible choices and use their influence in a worthwhile manner.
The pennies will always be there, and Jack and kiddos like him will always grab onto them. It is up to us to make sure those pennies are sparkly and valuable, rather than tarnished, useless and potentially harmful. With that being said, I think it is grossly unfair of the teacher to use this teachable moment to instead punish your lovely, innocent boy for a guileless infraction.
