My husband and I have completely different approaches to homework, as well. I’ll help with homework, but do have the attitude that I already completed grade they were in. My husband’s way of helping can best be illustrated by my son’s statement about a lengthy documentary, “If I wanted to hear a 2 and a half hour lecture on the topic, I’d ask Dad.” Not to mention the part where Dad has books or articles on the subject (if only he can find them) giving waaay more info than is needed or wanted.

I love it! I’m not sure I’ll ever look at those darn parenthesis the same way again.

Love your response to homework – I fought with my daughter in third grade every night until her teacher sat us both down and said ” your mom’s already been to third grade – if you can’t do the homework, pack it back up and tell me in school the next day ” (Thank you Lisa Lindsey @ PWS). I am happy to say I haven’t helped with homework since ( except for occasional help reviewing for a test) Proud to say that third grader, who is now a senior in HS, just got accepted to 6 colleges -completing the whole process on her own right down to her college essay.

You continue to inspire me to be a little more patient, a little more understanding, a little more open-minded towards the wonderful young man in our family who has Aspbergers. Thank you, Carrie!

“It is not the object described that matters, but the light that falls on it.” —Boris Pasternak I heard this quote today and boom, I read this by you this evening. Your writing about your family is full of light.

Even from holding our babies. I held them inward keeping them safe. Their dad held them facing the world. I helped them with language, he with math and logic.
