So beautiful. Your daughter is a lovely girl and clearly wise beyond her years: “Other parents sprinkle lies into the things they tell their kids”!!

I don’t have a daughter. But I do have a son. Yesterday, we were play tickling and he got a little carried away. I asked him to stop. He heard me but it didn’t compute. He was just having so much fun, was caught up in the game, but I had asked him to stop and it was important that he listen. Later, we had a talk about how when a girl says no, stop, enough, it’s important to listen. He smiled and said he understood. He is 6 and on the spectrum and it’s important that he respect other people’s space and comfort level, just like he wants others to respect his.
Boys and girls must be taught these important lessons.

She is a very special girl…wise beyond her years and she may understand things about the future better than you think. I’m so glad my daughter is grown and married and happy and strong and beautiful and wise. I am raising my Aspie grandson (don’t care what they call it now; it is what it is) and I often wonder how to teach him the things that he needs to know about girls and respect and no means no. I did ok with my son on that…maybe I’m worrying too much about his son…but raising a boy in this rape culture is more difficult now than it was 30 years ago.

This brought tears of empathy to my eyes. I almost always understand your posts as I, too, have an autistic child. Mine is 36 now. Just half my age. And I raised him alone. But daughters are different.
I will remember your Rose and all the others who have Moms trying to decide how to raise them!!!

Rose is Everygirl. And I love how you couch the discussion – allowing it to hit hearts right where they beat.

Rose is beautiful on the outside as well as within. She is a gift from God to you, like Jack is a gift. Life is like a rainbow to appreciate after a storm. Its many colors send a message of love from above. Your ability to express your emotions is also a gift to all of us to stop and see the rainbows in our lives. Thank-you for sharing your gift.
